Hello Ladies,
It's been forever since I've made a post to this blog! Mainly because I couldn't remember the sign in ID - I knew I have it stored somewhere in my email in-box but was too lazy to search for it :S.. As for me- There has been a lot going lately..
Some of you already know this, but thought I would share here. My parents were involved in a car accident at the beginning of August. They were driving east on 401 when a truck hit the passenger side of my dads car where my mom was sitting. The impact from the hit caused the car to spin 180 and the passenger side was smashed into the middle ramp that separates the hwy from on-coming traffic. My mom experience a concussion instantly, the metal and broken glass cut her lips and face...
My mom was admitted to Sunnybrook hospital where they did various ct scans and tests, they found that she had some bruising in her head but will go away on its own, She received double stiches for her face and lip area, her teeth were knocked loose, her hips were fractured, lungs bruised and other minor cuts - My dad seemed okay at the time so hospital released him that night.. my mom stayed at the ICU for 3 nights where she lived off IV and morphine - she was later transferred to the regular rooms and stayed another 2 nights and than transferred again to Providence health care center and where she stayed 3 weeks for rehab.
They finally released my mom by mid September. She mainly relies on wheelchair and walker to get around the house and for hospital check up until her hip heals, my dad stayed at home with her during the day to look after her. Meanwhile he was doing physio
1 Week later my grandma was feeling stomach pains, my sister and I took her to emergency room, doctor did some tests, sent her home.. she's okay now. but they never quite figured out was wrong.. her fingers are swollen all the time, we took her to the family doctor for check up, but they never quit figured out what the problem is. They are pretty much giver her different medication to check out to see what works (that's our health care system for you)
Another week later, everything seem to be heading toward the right direction.. my mom and grandma both attended my sisters wedding.. the make up artist put make up to cover most of the scar on my moms face, she arrived at the wedding with a walker.. not the best way to show up at your daughters wedding, but at least she was there!
Two weeks later my mom found my dad sitting on the ground in the back yard... he had fallen over and was unable to get himself back up. My mom yelled for help (lucky I was working from home that day). Between my grandma and mom, there is no way they could have helped him up. I ran outside to find my dad sitting on the ground. at first we thought he had tripped on something and fallen over, he was flustered and he was having issues balancing himself and seemed very disorientated. (we later found out that he had suffered from a seizure) When I finally got him, he said he was okay, he rested at the steps for a bid and was able to stand up on his own.
Later the evening my mom realized that something wasn't right so she asked me to take him to the hospital. He refused to go, but we finally convinced him to.. we got to Scarborough Grace.. the doc made him do some physical tests like hop on knee and etch.. the doc noticed that my dad was abnormally weak on left side, I told the doc that my dad was involved in a car accident about a month ago. he did some tests and found that there is a servere amount of old bruises and fresh bleeding that is sitting on top of his head (mostly from the car accident) and needs to be operated on immediately.. that night they transferred him to Toronto western, 3 days later still haven't operated on him (again our health care system). His entire left side was pretty much paralyzed at this point, he was unable to walk or eat, lived off iv and needed help using the washroom (it broke my heart to see him so helpless) it was visible that his health was deteriorating. day 3 at the hospital, there was finally a slot for my dads operation. They drilled a 2 by 2 cm hole in his head to drain the blood.. he started to regain strength on his left side almost immediately after he woke up from the operation he stayed another 3 days before he was released.. its been one week since the operation.. everything seems stable...he will have another scan in a couple of weeks. doctor said if bleeding persist he may need to go through another operation...
My parents were on their way home the night of the accident from handing out invitation to my sisters wedding.. my sister blamed herself for the accident. but we all reassured her it had nothing to do with her and its all the stupid idiot drivers fault... My dad was unable to drive since the accident. It has been really tough for everyone during time with everything that's been going on. But I'm positive that everything will get better from here
Moral of story - Stay away from Trucks!!!Anyway, I want to end this post on a positive note. I'm engaged! JK ahahaha I kid I kid!! Jason and I are no where near being engaged!
-Actually the good news is Marsha (my sister in law ) is scheduled to give birth this Friday! Yay !! I'll have another nephew to play with!
